Betty and I were second cousins. We first met 30 years ago at her home, and when I saw her interesting pictures, artifacts and books and the deck overlooking her gardens I liked her right away. Since then we have talked by phone and I visited whenever I went to Lindsborg. Betty was such a good conversationalist, quick to smile and to laugh, interested in others and happy with life’s simple pleasures. Over the years she always told me the news of all of her family including how glad she was that Kathy, Emily and Gabbie lived nearby and helped her so much. And more recently she told me of her friendships with Sheila and Aubrey and their help. Until she passed away Betty remained interested in everyone in the larger world and was open, caring and compassionate in her world view. I will always remember her.

I had the privilege of preparing supper for Betty five evenings a week for the last months of her life. We got to be great friends and I was so enriched by the experience.
I work at a grocery store, and every evening, I would regale Betty with "Grocery Store Stories". We laughed so hard. The next day she would avidly await the next chapter.
We had so many good talks - sharing stories and hopes and dreams.
Betty had great courage. She was funny, kind, gentle, smart, tough and vulnerable. She was so complimentary of the meals I prepared for her - and for me as a person, I always left her home feeling uplifted. What a gift that was.
I miss her to the moon and back.
So long, Pal. Don't take any wooden nickels.
Love,
Sheila

Betty was a beautiful light in my life. I loved seeing her face and hearing her stories. Although I cleaned her house we had a special friendship I’ll always cherish. We talked about all of her trips and living up north and all of her beautiful art. She loved the simple things in life and was a survivor ! She always cared about me and my daughter and was a great listener. I didn’t get to see her much once covid hit and I’m sad to hear of her passing without getting to say goodbye. She had the biggest heart and best hugs. Always had treats for my daughter and plant starters for me. She will forever be a cherished friend to me and always in my heart. Much love to all of her wonderful family ❤️
