Bruce Jay Amos, 70, of Marquette, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Monday, September 4, 2017 at Via Christi Hospital in Wichita, KS., after beating cancer for the past ten years.

Bruce was born June 27, 1947 in Colby, KS to the late W.O. “Curly” and Helen (Mead) Amos, the third of four children. He was raised on the family farm north of Colby and loved being around the farm, fields, and his horses. He graduated from Colby Schools and attended Colby Community College.

Bruce married Betty A. Mattingly on August 11, 1979 in Lindsborg. He worked for over 40 years for the State of Kansas as a Driver’s License Examiner. Bruce and Betty spent the first part of their married life in Colby, KS, where all three children were born, moving to Marquette, KS in 1991. In 1997 they moved to their country home in Freemount.

He loved his wife and family above all else and also loved anything involving the great outdoors: hunting, fishing, gardening, lawn work, flowers, birds, and the weather. He treated everyone and everything with dignity and respect. His positive attitude, cheerful whistle, and easy demeanor made him instantly loved by everyone he met, no matter who or where he was.

He is survived by his wife: Betty, of Lindsborg; son: Darin Jay Amos and Emily Bader, of Norcatur, KS; daughters: Kara Joy Amos of Lindsborg and her fiancé Joe Modrow of Kanopolis, and Megan Jill Amos of Roeland Park, KS; sisters: Jody (Denny) Faulkner of Lakewood, CO, and Carol (Rich) Lillard of Lakewood, CO; and brother: Bob (Lila) Amos of Colby, KS. and his in-laws: Connie Davis, Lake Lady, FL., Jane (Hal) Peterson, Oscala, FL , JoAn (Allan) Lindfors, Marquette, KS, and Matt (Debra) Mattingly, Palmetto, FL, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will all miss him.
