I want to speak to you of your mother. A dear friend and I took a sight-seeing detour through Lindsborg in 2007 or 2008. We had just come out of a shop and sat down on a bench outside of the shop. Violet (and someone was with her) came up to us and began a polite conversation. At first, I thought she was just a sweet lady. Quickly, however, I discovered that she was on a gentle mission. She casually brought up the topic of being brokenhearted and spoke to me of ways that God has mended (and been mending) her broken heart. She talked about these things not by over-disclosing, but she was sharing fairly intimately of how God had met her. Then, she turned the focus to me. I had recently been in difficult grief. I had miscarried a second baby and had taken-on a heavy burden. Violet was listening that day and reached out to me. I am grateful for that small appointment that was designed for my heart. I don't know how I learned more about her. Eventually, I had a last name and wrote her a note of thanks. Up until then, I tended to talk about that encounter as an encounter with Violet, the Swede. The little moniker stuck. I want to tell you of your mother's kindness to this random stranger from Oklahoma. I'm so sorry for your loss.
