Dapper Don was a wonderful model and example to us all on how to live life graciously, fully, with a kind heart and a gentle soul. His "song" lifted us up and settled us down. Perhaps he has now traded his keyboard in for a harp for there is no doubt he was an angel.

I am sorry to hear of Mr. Millers passing. He was an icon at Chapman High School. He was a wonderful man who created Class Night at CHS. I graduated in the class of '70. Best class night ever with him and Mrs. Teichgraber. An incredible man who will be fondly remembered. Rest in peace Mr. Miller.

Don Miller was my first "professional" piano teacher. My mother started teaching me piano at the age of 5 and when I was in the 4th grade we moved to the Chapman school district and my mom signed me up for summer piano lessons with Don Miller (who was her high school vocal music teacher). He instantly became my favorite teacher and I took piano lessons from him until I graduated from high school. He was probably the strongest influence in my younger years. I went on to Kansas State University where I earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. I am a professional accompanist/pianist and I feel very blessed to have known him and to have experienced life with him for so many years. He was truly an inspriation for the arts and music education.

Don Miller had a positive impact on many who passed through the Chapman music programs. He retired a few years before I was in high school; however, I was fortunate to take piano lessons from him. He challenged me in his teaching and I am grateful for the time I spent with him. I was thrilled to see him at the All School Reunion last year and am glad we could show him how much we appreciated him and the impact he had on us. Well done, Don.

Mr. Miller taught generations of Chapman students about life and music at his piano. He taught my parents, my siblings and myself more than scales and notes and pedalwork. He instilled in everyone he met life skills that we take with us today—from choir lofts to board rooms. He was a remarkable teacher, mentor and friend. Bless him.

I am the niece of Nora and A.D. Hassler with whom Don roomed for so many years in Chapman. He was also my piano teacher and choral teacher (for both Dave and I) in high school. My mom was Neva Danielson Hassler and a fellow "Smolanite." I have a fond memory of eating my first ost kaka at the Miller home in Smolan following Juleaften. My mother had sung at the service. Dave and I stopped to see Don in Lindsborg on a trip to KS in May. He was not doing well. He will be sorely missed by all his former students. Ellen Anne Hassler Boles

Don Miller was my hero. As a young boy, I always sat right next to him in church and had the all-important "job" of pulling out his podium for him to stand on to direct. Later I took piano lessons from him and several years later he asked me if I had ever considered doing music as a profession. I loved music, and his suggestion took root in my mind--from then on my plan was to become a music teacher. I am now in my 37th year of teaching music. Don continued to be an inspiration to me throughout high school--he asked me to start accompanying Class Night on the piano when I was a freshman. He was truly a wonderful man and we will all miss him!

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Miller's passing. I graduated in 1973 from Chapman High School and had the good fortune to be a student of Mr. Miller's. What a great man and great musician. It was so good seeing him direct the choir at last year's all school reunion. He will be missed. He was a true treasure of Chapman High School.

Don Miller was an important part of my time at DCCHS (now Chapman High School)1958-1962. He was my piano teacher as well as choral director. He taught me a lot about being an accompanist which has served me well ever since, including being accompanist for the K-State Men's Glee Club and for my church choir/orchestra for 23 years. He will be missed by a lot of people.

To the family of Don Miller: Please accept my sympathy at his passing. I remember when he came out to a church near my home during the summers to teach piano lessons, and I knew him at DCCHS (I know they call it a different name now) and remember him managing the Class Night activities in 1962, the year I graduated. He was always passionate about music, and expected the best from his students.

What a wonderful person, and how fortunate I feel to have had the honor of knowing him. He taught us so much more than music - taught us so much about ourselves. He will be missed.
