Obituary of David Cepure

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David Christian Cepure, 50, of Lindsborg, passed away January 4, 2013. He was born October 8, 1963, the son of Uldis and Astrida (Zalitis) Cepure in WaKeeney, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, niece, Brittany Gross, and nephew, Ryan Rhoads. Dave is survived by his sisters; Daina Rhoads and husband Doyle, and Anita Neilson, both of Lindsborg, additional family and many friends. Dave graduated from Addison Trail H.S., Addison, Ilinois in1982. He attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS and graduated with a bachelors degree in Art, in 1987. Dave learned his cooking skills in Lindsborg under the supervision of Gus Shriner and would make cooking his lifelong career...He always said "I'm a cook, not a chef". After college, Dave trekked west to Steamboat Springs, CO to live in the mountains near his lifelong friend, Pete Grove. He got a job cooking, and lived the next 17 yr. there; learned to love the beauty of the Rockies and shared his life with two Labrador dogs, Luke and Suds, that were so dear to him. Dave was very proud to become an Uncle when his younger sister, Anita, had her three children; Barry, Sarah and Brittany. Through his older sisters marriage he also became an adopted Uncle to Ryan, Summer and Jake. He was thrilled to be called "Unkey Dave"... Dave moved back to Lindsborg in 2005 to live closer to his family; lived with his mother and step-father, Lou; helped them both in their last years of failing health. Dave also worked in numerous food establishments back here in KS, the last being the Swedish Crown. His best days were spending time at home, reading books and newspapers, watching movies with friends and caring for his pets (Duke, his German Shepard, and his two cats Emmy and Frogie); hanging out at the Lindsborg library, then walking to work at the Crown, where he made many new friends and truly loved working there. He gained new respect for himself because of the appreciation he received there. Dave had many loves and interests; enjoyed spending time outdoors, camping and fishing. Dave was a devoted friend, loving son, beloved brother and uncle. He always tried to help make peace amongst others, was always gentle and kind. He had great fun watching and competing with TV Jeopardy contestants at the Stuga with Mark and with friends and family at home. As much as Dave cooked in his life, he loved eating holiday meals and BBQ's with family and friends better; he came to enjoy dearly the Rhoads family get- togethers with Bonnie, Greg, Mindy and the rest of us. Dave's health took a tragic turn shortly before his 50th birthday and it became such that his body could no longer fight all the insults that presented themselves. He spent his last days as an in-patient at Hospice of Salina, where he passed away peacefully. A close friend said that "It seems like a slow walk up to the end, just like the way Dave always walked...." Dave...You will truly be missed!! A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 9, at Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg. Memorials may be designated for the family in care of Christians Funeral Home 103 N.
