John Walter Riggs, 79, of Lindsborg died Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at home in Lindsborg. John was born March 7, 1942 in Kingman, KS to the late Cecil W. and the late Blanche (Miller) Riggs. He married Jane Mary (Bock) Riggs on November 24, 1962 at Manhattan, KS. John earned two Bachelor’s degrees, one in Landscape Architecture and one in City Planning. He worked as a City Planner and was owner of Riggs Associates, Lindsborg, Ks, in addition to being the owner/operator of the Riggs Arboretum, Waterloo, KS. He hosted The Walk in the Woods, in coordination with many Kansas entities (Kansas Foresters, Sunflower RC&D, NRCS, Kansas Fish and Wildlife Dep't.), for area 5th graders for over 20 years to educate them about Kansas trees, ecosystems, and wildlife. He is survived by his daughter, Judith J. (Riggs) Clubine, McPherson, KS; son, Robert W. Riggs, Lindsborg, KS; grandchildren, Todd (Libby) Clubine, Wellington, KS; Josie (Brant) Weaver, Lindsborg, KS; Zoe Riggs, Junction City, KS; Great-granddaughter, Briar Clubine; and brother, Roy (Paula) Riggs, Kingman, KS. John was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Riggs, his parents, Cecil and Blanche Riggs, and his brother, Carl Riggs. Cremation has been chosen. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m.on Saturday, July 24 at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Waterloo, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the McPherson County Food Bank.
