Nancy Carolyn Anderson, 87, of Lindsborg died Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Bethany Home. Nancy Carolyn Anderson was born in Manhattan, Kansas on January 26, 1934 while her parents, Richard Herzig and Frances Larson Herzig, were students at Kansas State University. By the time she was three years old, she was the band’s “honorary drum majorette” of Buhler High School, where her father taught. When Nancy was six years old, she introduced herself to her future husband Dave (then age 12) when she jumped onto the running board of the Anderson family car. She simply stated, “Hi! I’m Nancy Herzig.” After her parents divorced, her mother later married Raymond Holmquist and they lived in Smolan, Kansas where she attended school with her younger brother Philip. After graduating from Assaria High School in 1952, she studied nursing at Kansas Wesleyan and the Asbury School of Nursing in Salina. On August 25, 1954, Nancy married David Anderson at Salemsborg Lutheran Church. After completing nursing school, Nancy joined Dave in El Paso, Texas while he was in the U.S. Army. After he fulfilled his military obligations, the couple moved to Lindsborg where Dave began his teaching and coaching career. They welcomed two children – Dana on September 12, 1956, and then Debbie on July 2, 1958. They were active in Salemsborg Church as members of the church choir and Nancy was a member of W.E.L.C.A. She loved music, and sang many solos over the years. Dave & Nancy also enjoyed many years of participation in their pinochle club. Nancy worked as Dr. Murfitt’s nurse for 24 years, then began working for McPherson County Special Education Cooperative as a school nurse. After “retiring”, she began working part-time conducting health assessments at Bethany Home before ending her career at Central Kansas Mental Health in Salina at the age of 80. Nurse Nancy loved being “The Queen,” however, she was affectionately called “Nannie” by her grandchildren and their friends. She always enjoyed attending Dana & Debbie’s and then her grandchildren’s performances and games, but was also the greatest fan of Lindsborg’s Broadway RFD. She was a wonderful cook, and made many delicious tea rings for the Lindsborg High School Swedish Dancer fundraisers. She helped sponsor many dancer trips, including accompanying them on one trip to Sweden. Nancy was preceded in death by her mother and step-father Frances & Ray Holmquist, father Richard (Herzig) Paige, her loving husband David, brother and sister-in-law Philip & Gloria Herzig, mother-in-law Naomi Anderson, great granddaughters Linnea & Svea Swan, nephew Ron Anderson, as well as Dave’s siblings and their spouses: Harley Anderson, Norman & Irene Anderson, Leo & Joann Anderson, Paul & Marion Anderson, and Ilene & Jerry Cooper. She is survived by her son Dana (Jan) of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughter Debbie (Warren) of Lindsborg; grandchildren Anna Anderson (Brenton) of Lindsborg; Tyler (Molly) Johnson of Lindsborg; Ian Johnson (Lindsborg); Ashley (Scott) Swan of Overland Park; and Emily Johansson (Petrus) of Brastad, Sweden. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren: Brynna & Marik Anderson of Lindsborg; Brik & Soren Johnson of Lindsborg; August, Frances, and Rosemary Swan of Overland Park; and Otis & Harley Anne Johansson of Brastad, Sweden. Her step-mother Anne Paige, half-brothers and half-sisters also survive her: Susan Miller, David Paige, Mike Paige, Brian Paige, Doug Paige, Rick Paige, Kevin Paige, Jennifer Blanchard, Debby Harris, and Maria Steele. Cremation has been chosen. Memorial services will be 10:30a.m., Monday, July 5 at Salemsborg Lutheran Church, with Pastor Ethan Feistner officiating. Fellowship will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Salemsborg Lutheran Church. Memorials may be sent in care of Crick-Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, KS 67456.
