Obituary of Rosa M. Ramsey

Rosa “Rosie” Margaret Ramsey, 93, of Lindsborg passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Bethany Home of Lindsborg. Rosie was born January 17, 1927 in Hudson, KS to the late Julius P and Christina W (Herb) Munz. Rosie graduated from Hudson High School and Denver Business College in Denver, CO. She was the wife of the late Dorwin Ramsey. She was a devoted mother, wife, homemaker and special education bus driver for USD 400. She is survived by her daughters: Kris Sprague (Art) of Valley Center, KS, Lois Tatro of Wichita, KS, Nancy Burgess of Hutchinson, KS, and Jane Anderson (Roger) of Lindsborg, KS; as well as 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Rosie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons-in-law: Tom Tatro and Bill Burgess; great granddaughter: Angel Patience Tatro; 3 sisters and 5 brothers. Growing up in the small town of Hudson and as the youngest of 9 children, Rosie was busy helping her parents in her father’s greenhouse. Several of her siblings were deaf, so she learned signed language and was the primary interpreter for the family. Even in her last days, she would use sign language to communicate with another Bethany Home resident and would sign “I LOVE YOU” as her family left her room. After graduating as valedictorian of her high school class, she and a high school friend made the trip to Denver for Business School. When asked how her parents agreed to this, she replied, “I didn’t give them a choice”, which was probably the earliest example she gave us of her ‘feisty, fighting’ spirit that made her not just a kind, loving person, but also a person who ‘got things done’! From there, she moved to Wichita, met Dorwin on a blind date, married 3 months later and moved to McPherson to start their life together. They were married almost 60 years and enjoyed running a gas station, farming, raising all sorts of animals, and keeping up with 4 girls and all of their many activities. Rosie was never one to just ‘sit at home’. She was an active, life-long member of the Langley Methodist Church, which merged with the Marquette United Methodist Church. Over the years she served the church as a Sunday School Teacher, Church Secretary, Treasurer, President of UMW, multiple board positions, etc. When Rosie became homebound, she faithfully tuned in on Sunday mornings to the 1st United Methodist Church of Wichita TV Ministries and was thankful they provided this service. She was also active in LEH (Langley Economical Homemakers), TOPS, and many other community organizations. Rosie was an AVID craftsman! If there was a baby in the future, she would crochet or knit a blanket. She made Christmas stockings, and ornaments for all of the girls, their husbands, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many, many friends. Rosie also loved to cook, making her Mother’s Rye Bread for family gatherings and as gifts at Christmas or end of school for teachers and bus drivers. She took delight in teaching her grandchildren how to make cookies, and that cookies came from the ‘oven’, not the grocery store. One of Rosie’s greatest joys was her job as a special education school bus driver for USD 400. She LOVED the children and took special care to know each of them, ensuring they were delivered safely to and from school each day. But, most of all, Rosie loved her family. She so adored her large, extended “Munz” family and going to special occasion gatherings with them. However, FAMILY to Rosie wasn’t limited to those bound by blood. She had many dear friends, both in the past, and current, who she considered her FAMILY. She loved life, and fought hard every day to make the most of it! A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2 at Langley Cemetery, with Chaplain Phillip Hett officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Home or to the First United Methodist Church of Wichita Television Ministry.
