Watch Dad's service at the base of Coronado Heights. Parker Johnson, Lori's oldest, took the video. There is a surprise at the end......Dad driving his Model A in the Hyllnings Fest Parade. Love you!

We made several trips to Lindsborg to see Grandma and Grandpa, and they would also come to GA and CA, in the years in between, to see us (the grandkids). Grandpa was known for his "Well" and "Oh" and was always level headed and cool no matter what he seemed to encounter. I remember running wheat to the co-op at harvest and riding on the combine and the tractor. Every time that I was with him, I learned something, and I after a while, I learned to just be inquisitive because he knew so much about the things he was around and enjoyed. At 11, I was so excited for him to take the governor off of my go-cart, around 13 he brought out the shot gun and shortly after that he let me ride his motorcycle. If you want to find out how fast anything can go, just give it to a 13 year old... One of our more memorable trips was to Oshkosh, for the fly in. I had never been to an airshow, and to fly in from states away was special. He let me take the stick briefly a couple of times, and I'll never forget it.
Shana and I took the kids to KS for their 65th anniversary, and they came to GA a couple of years ago with Lori and Parker. Parker and Grandma kept us laughing, and Grandpa just seemed to enjoy the time. I know that 95 is a full life, but it seemed like he would always be here.

Landvis Ferm was a really sweet man. I remembered him from coming into the office to get his paper on Wednesdays. He talked to me a time or two about how he used to work for the Lindsborg News-Record.Wish I had more time to talk to him about his life. It's sad to know that he is gone now but I know he's at peace.
My heart is with you all at this time

Dad was always building things. I remember "generations" of Go-Carts. He built the first one for Leanne and Lana when they were little. I mostly remember it from the old 8mm movies. The next one Dad built was the one Les and I mainly drove and Lisa rode along. At the time there was still a pasture and we drove a course that went out and around and back to the yard. When Dad built his first plane we then had a grass runway and another great place to drive the Go-Cart. Years later we got a Go-Cart for my sons, Parker and Brennan, and kept it at the farm. It was a favorite of their friends to come to the farm, drive the Go-Cart and make a trip to Coronado Heights. Then one day Lana brought an old Shriner parade car to the farm for Dad to restore. He had another project! When it was done, it was awesome and we called it the "Little T". Lana's grandkids, Tristin, Andrew and Zach got to race it around the front yard and circle trees where we never got to drive. My dad's mechanical abilities have been passed on to his son, Les, and his grandson, Patrick, so I don't think that the generations of the Go-Cart is done.
Dad, I know you are smiling down on us all. Love you, Lori

Visiting the family farm over the years was always an adventure during my childhood…
I remember going on plane rides and climbing up onto the wing. My mom would hand my little brother, Jace, to me and we would squeeze into the front seat together. We flew high above the town, Coronado Heights, and then the finale would be “buzzing” the house as everyone below waved.
I remember playing in the tree house with my cousin Pat, throwing watermelon rinds into the garden, and catching lightning bugs.
I remember going in car rides and taking turns on the swing, trying to catch kittens, and begging them to let me take one home.
I remember him eating sliced tomatoes at the head of the table and Grandma & Grandpa enjoying their daily coffee and sweets.
I remember him walking out towards the garage with his hands in his pockets in search of his project for the day.
I remember the way he said my name and his smile.
I remember meeting his gaze when there was lots of activity going on and he’d smile softly and lift his shoulders as if saying “Yep, I hear ya!”
I remember when he and Grandma came to look after Jace and I in California when we were young, and every time he started my mom’s car the windshield wipers would go on and it was so frustrating to him! As the week went on it turned into a joke and we would all laugh.
As time went on, the trips became less frequent and I would receive letters from Grandma…She would tell me about their dances, their anniversaries, and what Grandpa was up to. There was always lots to do! She would include a smily face in the letter when referring to Grandpa “forgetting” to bring his walker with him this past year. I would always laugh when reading this because if there’s one thing we all know about Lois & Landvis, is that they have impeccable memories! I appreciated his independence, quiet stubbornness, and confidence.
His work ethic, commitment to family and friends, and independence was inspiring and I know these traits live amongst all of us… His blue eyes and cool demeanor will be passed on for generations to come.
My mom (Lea) and I visited this past September and we celebrated his 95th birthday a little early. We attended ended an ice cream social at the Church and it was so amazing how many people came up to him to say hello.
I knew deep down that this trip would probably be the last time I would see him... and I soaked in the last hug and the last gaze down the driveway as he watched us ride away.
I look forward to visiting Grandma soon and wish I could be there with everyone for the memorial. Sending love to the family.
Love,
Kyrrha

As a new member to the family, I will be forever grateful I had the chance to get to know Landvis during a trip to Lindsborg for Thanksgiving 2017. One of my favorite memories is when Landvis took us for a ride in his Model A. He and Lois sat in the front and Jace and I in the back and we drove from the farm over to Coronado Heights. I was shocked when Landvis climbed to the top of the castle with Jace and I but after hearing more stories about Landvis, I know this was no surprise. He had a long life and kept doing the little things that brought him and Lois joy till the very end.
My memories from our trip to the Ferm’s farm are what I will share with Landvis’ newest great grandchild, JoAnne. I’ll make sure to tell her of his quiet nature and his cool smile as we drove along the dirt roads.
We love you, Landvis.

This is how I will always remember Dad.....holding Mom's hand. They balanced each other in so many ways, not just walking.
My daughter, Kyrrha, and I were fortunate to celebrate Dad's 95th birthday even though a little early in September of last year. Kyrrha baked an almond cake, we had candles and sang happy birthday. Mom and Dad were always smiling together as this picture shows. As I'm looking around my home I just realized I have many pictures of Mom and Dad together....and they were for 73 years.
I remember Dad water skiing behind the boat being driven by Mom when we were young. There was the time Dad was determined to go off the new ski ramp in the middle of the lake. Mom pulled him around over and over again and every time his skis hit the ramp he crashed. But he insisted on trying it again. Aha....the ramp needed to be wet. So Mom pulled Dad around so he could cut into the wave and splash water on the ramp. Then he made it work. He came around and up the ramp, into the air, and back to the water. He did it! Yea!
Dad also loved roller coasters. That's probably why he also loved flying. I loved when he would pull the plane out of the hangar and casually ask if anyone wanted a ride. You bet! Then we'd fly around Coronado Heights, Lindsborg and of course "buzz" the house. Dad was a great pilot. I always felt safe with him.
I will miss him so much. But I can always look up and envision him flying overhead. With love, Lea
