Obituary of Joyce Lynnette Englund
Joyce Lynnette (Schneider) Englund, 82, passed away July 8, 2019. She was born March 5, 1937 to Irvin and Maxine (Anders) Schneider. She married Charles Englund on December 7, 1956. Her memberships included Messiah Lutheran Church, WELCA, retired church workers, the board for TACOL, and the Knit-Wits.
Joyce was a very giving person. Her generosity was manifested in the many ways she shared her talents. Hundreds of lucky people received knitted or crocheted gifts, from afghans and prayer shawls to hats, scarves and mittens. Numerous newlyweds were given placemats and napkin rings. Family and friends weren’t the only people to benefit from her generosity. Caps went to premature babies and women undergoing chemotherapy; scarves and mittens to children without such warm items; prayer shawls to any in need of hope or comfort; cotton bandages to victims of skin diseases.
Scores of young people in 4-H, Scouts, and KICK learned the art of knitting and crocheting under Joyce’s skillful mentorship. Many more scores of family, friends, and acquaintances were thrilled when Joyce was able to repair any injury or flaw in their knitted items.
Joyce also shared her music. For many years she served as her husband’s pianist at Peace Lutheran of New Cambria. She sang at many funerals and weddings, in the Messiah Church choir, and for several years in the Messiah Oratorio Chorus.
Typing was another way Joyce gave of herself. Countless professors and students owe part of their success to the professional papers she produced. Anyone with a project that needed spit and polish knew that Joyce was the go-to person.
Her faith was always first in her life. She leaves that legacy for her family and friends.
Joyce is survived by daughters, Kathy Englund (Ted Arbury), Karol Carr, and Kirsten Vassalli (Gregg); seven grandchildren, Tabetha Carr, Bill (Tonia) Carr, Jacquie (Kyle) Ward, Beau Dewbre, Scott Murphy, Mark (Kaleigh) Murphy, and Sally Murphy; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chuck (2012); a brother; an infant daughter; and a son-in-law.
