Obituary of Daniel Floyd Carr
Daniel Floyd Carr, 60, died Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Bethany Home in Lindsborg.
Dan was born January 26, 1959, in Washington, KS, the son of Floyd Junior and Jane (Krueger) Carr. His parents divorced while he was three. Dan moved with his mother to Topeka, where he lived until going to college. He graduated from Topeka West High School and held a bachelor’s degree from Bethany College, class of 1981.
On December 29, 1979, Dan married Karol Englund at Messiah Lutheran Church, Lindsborg. A daughter, Tabetha, born in 1985, and a son, William, born in 1987, completed the family.
Dan had many interests and passions. Baseball (Go Royals! Cardinals! Cubs!); politics (he often reflected on working his first campaign at 6); history (honeymooning in Washington DC); his family, church, friends, and community.
Lindsborg was Dan’s home and his career. His tenure at the News-Record spanned hundreds of meetings, athletic contests, arts performances, and special occasions (such as Wild Dala horses). His career was also studded with highlights: traveling to a national basketball tournament, meeting celebrities, such as Mikhail Gorbachev, and developing many valuable relationships.
Dan’s memberships included the Lions Club, Lindsborg Tree Board, Bethany Oratorio Society, and Messiah Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-parents. Survivors include his wife, Karol; daughter, Tabetha; son, William and his wife, Tonia; five grandchildren - Lacy, Nathan, Jocelyn, Natalie, and Coraline; sisters-in-law Kathy Englund and her husband, Ted; Kirsten Vassalli and her husband, Gregg; mother-in-law, Joyce Englund; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 2, at 2 p.m. in the Bethany Home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, at Dan’s request a memorial fund has been set up at Peoples Bank and Trust, PO Box 111, Lindsborg, KS, to benefit his family. Please make checks payable to Kathy Englund, with Memorial Fund notated.
In Loving Memory
