Obituary of Lois Eleanor Larson

Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lois E. Larson, 96, of Overland Park, KS and formerly of Lindsborg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 7, 2018 surrounded by family. Lois made her home in Overland Park after the death of her husband, Landis “Bud” Larson. She resided most of her adult life on their farm near Lindsborg.

Born on Nov. 2, 1921 in Salina, the only child of George E. and Amy (Dustin) Tremain, Lois entered the world with distinction: the first baby girl to arrive at the new Asbury Hospital. She relished poetry and drama and was an avid reader.

Lois was known for her characteristic spunk and independent thinking, from memorizing all the ice cream flavors at her parents’ diner as a grade-schooler in order to serve as a back-up carhop to finding two jobs to put herself through secretarial school, all to her father’s chagrin. Lois graduated from Salina High in 1939, attended Marymount College and graduated from Brown Mackie College. American involvement in World War II inspired her to take the Civil Service Exam, travel to Washington, D.C. and work for the War Production Board and later the Department of the Interior.

Returning to Salina, Lois met a farmer she described as tall, shy, nice and very polite. Lois wed Landis “Bud” Larson on May 6, 1951 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lindsborg, and they spent their 61 years of marriage on the Larson family farm, Lois adjusting from “big city girl” to farmer’s wife. She and Bud raised two sons, Lee and Lauren, and a daughter, Lanis.

Lois loved being a mother and grandmother and was active in church, attending Trinity United Methodist Church. Socially, she belonged to the Westside and Jonathan Clubs and a pinochle club. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Bethany College. Moving to Silvercrest at Deer Creek in 2012, Lois’s spirit and warmth were immediately popular among residents and staff. She eagerly volunteered as an ambassador to welcome new residents.

Lois is survived by her children Lee Larson of Lindsborg, Lauren (Karen) Larson of Shawnee and Lanis (Darroll) Atwood of Ozawkie; grandchildren Megan (Bryan) Wagoner, Brooke (Shane) Hebert, Elena Larson, Adam Larson, Nicole Larson and Jenni Atwood; and two great-granddaughters.

Visitation will be held at Crick-Christians Funeral Home Thursday, Oct 11 from 5-7pm.

Funeral services will be held 11:30am at Trinity United Methodist Church, Lindsborg. Private family interment will take place at Elmwood Cemetery prior to the funeral service.
