It was a great experience for me to get to work for Malm Construction on two different occasions. For sure, as time went on, I don't think Stewart ever got tired of telling when he and Willard pushed me over in the outhouse while working the road job between the Wilson Lake dam and Lucas. There was a bit of terror for me as it began shaking, went over on its side, then I could peer out the bottom and see those two guys in their coveralls bent over laughing their heads off. I threw toilet paper out the hole at them. Stewart put 10 minutes down on his time card that week for "pushing Jay over in the outhouse" and reported later that Deloris did not find a great deal of humor in that. His one regret of all that was not pushing it over on the door.
He was a hard worker. I respected his work talent and his work habits. It was a blessing to have gotten to know him.
He also saved my dumb butt a couple of times while staying over on road jobs where we'd spend the week then come home on the weekend.
Years and years later when my son was working for LeRoy, he overheard Stewart and another guy looking at him at the station and Stewart said, "of course he's gay. Look who his dad is!"
I really appreciated my time in getting to work with Stewart and being around him and then later getting a chance to teach his kids. It was great! My condolences to you all and your extended family. Our world got a little less lively this week. I believe another one up there just got a whole lot more lively! Blessings to you all.
