To Evan's family:
Evan was my beloved friend since 1967. He was a kind and generous person whose friendship meant so much to me through the years. My life is so much better because I knew him, and because of the encouragement and support he gave me in my artistic endeavors. He wrote beautiful scores for three of my early short films, enriching them immensely. He was an extraordinary artist and a beautiful, free-thinking spirit who looked for the good in everything and believed that a smile and a laugh were the best way to get through any kind of day. He was such a joy and a true inspiration. I will be eternally grateful to him for our friendship, and I will remember him always. My heart goes out to all of you in your loss. I pray that your memories of his remarkable spirit, one like no other, will bring you lasting comfort and peace in all the years to come.

To Evan's family.....my sister Sharron Miller, for whom Evan wrote the music for her films Cradle song and Deportee, has known Evan for 50 years. She introduced him to my fiance and me in 1968 and we found him as delightful, brilliant, generous, spiritual, creative, artistic, and loving as she said he was. Though John (who came to be my husband) and I didn't get to spend a lot of time with Evan, he was so open with us we could feel his goodness and whole hearted belief in the essential goodness of people everywhere. We were blessed to have met Evan and known him. God bless each of you as you grieve his going to God.

I just recently learned of the passing of Evan Tonsing. My wife, Judith and I were classmates and friends of Evan in the School of Music at the University of Kansas. We remember him as a superb cellist and dedicated scholar. He clearly had a very distinguished career and a musician and teacher. May he rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Robert and Judith Whaley
