My heart goes out to Richard, Jill and the Odell family and friends of Owen in your time of sorrow. I know Owen has left you with many precious memories from his 15 short years with us. When death robs us of someone we love very much, it causes much sadness and grief. Our loving heavenly Father, "Jehovah (Psalm 83:18) is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18) Isaiah 33:24 guarantees us: "And no resident will say "I am sick," ever again. Revelations 21: 4 says: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore." The family is in my prayers and I offer my heartfelt condolences.

Rick, Jill and Riley. I am deeply sorry for your loss of Owen. I don't have to tell you what a great kid he was as you already know. Owen always impressed me in his attitude about life and in the way he treated everyone around him. 15 years is much too short a time but know that in that short amount of time Owen made a huge impact in a positive way for those that had the privilege to know him.

I am so sorry to hear about the tragic accident. I can't even imagine what you are going through. Owen was a delight to teach, as a substitute teacher in Marquette. He always made me feel welcome in any class that I walked into. I really liked him. He had a special gift with people. I will be praying for your family for a long time. I did not know Owen on a personal level, however my son Ethan Nelson spent a lot of time with Owen at school. Ethan started school at Smoky Valley in the 5th Grade and Owen has always been there for him. What a great and rare kid he is to take it upon himself to be friendly to a kid he didn't even know. Not many kids will do that at that age. Ethan always spoke highly of your son and really enjoyed his company. Please know there are so many people that are thinking of all of you and are grieving with you. May the Lord wrap his arms around you and help you find some way to come to terms with what has happened.

Owen was full of life and spirit. He was constantly on the go. Having him in 8th grade language arts class was a treat. He worked hard. He wanted to do well. He was eager to improve, so he took critiques in a positive manner. Well, and since he had a lot of O'Dell DNA in him, he had an ornery side as well! I don't ever remember him being mean spirited. If he was ornery, it was to have some fun. My heartfelt condolences and prayers to you all. If I am still struggling to wrap my brain around this, it must be the toughest of times for his family. We will persevere and carry on - I think Owen would want us to.

I was privileged to have Owen has a student, and I am glad that I got to know this young man. He was always so determined to do his best. He was a "fireball" and had a lot of spunk. I only had the opportunity to meet Owen one time about 3 years ago and I was very impressed with this young man. He took the time to talk to my younger son who he knew from riding the school bus. Owen went out of his way to be kind and considerate and when I saw his father a few days later, I told him that he had a wonderful son and that he must be very proud of him. Rick responded yes to both statements. Your entire family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Family of Owen,
I didn't know Owen as I've only worked part time at SVMS and SVHS for 2 years. However, I am sure that he has passed me sometime in the hallways of the high school. As I just lost my sister to cancer in May, I am sure you, as I, am wondering Why! I watched the movie, "The Shack" while it was in theaters and in helping me answer that question, "Why?" I tend to lean on that movie. It is profoundly sad, yet at the same time comforting to know that Your baby is walking with Jesus. Lean on your friends, family, church, as you walk in this grief. Do not be afraid to cry or to reach out to others. In a book I am reading, it states, "God never intended us to suffer alone."
Know I am thinking of you guys as is the entire community of Lindsborg.

Dearest family, my heart and prayers go out to you! "O" was one of my favorite kids to coach in basketball. He was like having a second coach out on the floor during the game because he knew where every person should be and where to go. Even in practice he would show them where to go. Head, Heart, Hands and Health, Yes 4 H.
Our heads can't wrap the reality of it all. Our hearts grieve. Our hands don't know what to do and our Health ,well feels worse than sickness.
Yet our Head and Heart together rejoice in a Savior. We celebrate His saving grace . All 4-H work He completed for us. Our hands did nothing , The Christ's Hands, Thomas had to touch the holes in the hands to believe. Jesus did all the work for us and said. '"t is finished."

The K-State Wild Kids 4-H club in McPherson extends our sincere condolences in the passing of Owen.
Owen was a hard working, helpful, and respectful young man and was a genuine asset to McPherson County 4-H. We will miss seeing him helping the younger 4-Hers with their projects and working his hogs at fair time.

I am so very sorry to hear of this great loss.
I truly enjoyed having Owen in my Career and Life Planning class last year. He brought so much life into the room and helped us to share laughs as each student explored options for their futures. Owen had a strong sense of family and of "being there for them" as he often said.
I hope that your many wonderful memories will be of some comfort.
