Johanna and I were classmates at Bethany. After graduation, we both worked at Lindsborg Hospital. We shared a lot of laughs together. As others have written, Johanna was a sweet, kind person. I was fortunate to have known Johanna and her family. She will be missed.

Johanna and I were classmates in her father's physics class at Bethany. Over the ensuing years as a student and then when I was in the Air Force the Swenson family "adopted" me. As other's have written here already, Johanna had a warm heart and smile to match. I consider myself fortunate to have had her as a friend and to have been considered a part of the Swenson family.

I was saddened to hear of gentle Johanna's illness and death. The love of God and His joy constantly flowed from her to those around her.
I learned of her death through the Colombia Branch email updates. Regretfully we lost contact after I left Colombia in 1981. Prior to that, she had been like a big sister to me helping learn to deal cross-culturally during our Wycliffe training in Guatemala and later during some traumatic times in Bogota, Colombia. She was a good friend who had patience to listen to all my concerns, offer counsel, and pray for me. She was the one who chose to stay with me during the time we house-sat for a family that had to leave the country to protect their children from kidnapping threats. She was always available to support and encourage those around her.
May the God of all comfort, comfort your hearts as you wait to be re-united with her in Heaven.

Our dear dear friend Johanna will always be remembered in our hearts. We have such wonderful memories of our times with her while serving in Colombia, SA. She had a big heart full of kindness and generosity especially to our children and to the Indian people we worked with-always cheerful and loving. Her love for her Lord was very evident in her life. We know that she is finally at her real home with her Lord whom she served so faithfully!! We love you, Johanna.

We are shocked and saddened at Johanna's passing, but rejoice that she is now with her Lord Jesus. She attended Lindsborg High School with Steve, and we became closer friends while we were in Bogota, Colombia where she served with Wycliffe Bible Translators. We always looked forward to a visit with Johanna when we were back in Lindsborg visiting Steve's family. We will miss her. Steve and Marilyn Borell, Anchorage, Alaska
