Ardyce J. Mai, 84, passed away October 15 in Salina. She was born November 13, 1931 to Joseph and Lilly Johnson in Gilmore City, Iowa. Ardyce, along with her three siblings: Norman, Betty, and Jay, grew up on the family farm near Gilmore City. She graduated from Rolfe High School in 1949 and went to nurse’s training at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, IA. She moved to California to work as a nurse and met and married Jack Davies. Jack and Ardyce had three children: Ken, Tim, and Kathy. During these years of raising a family and jobs as a nurse, Ardyce lived in Fremont, Nebraska, Wichita, and the Kansas City area. In 1979 Ardyce met and married Raymond Mai. She became step-mother to Diane, Sonja, Melissa, and Shawn. Ardyce’s years in central Kansas began in rural Smolan and eventually to Lindsborg in 1980. She became an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she championed a variety of social ministry and mission initiatives through Global Missions and Lutheran World Relief as well as the TACOL thrift shop. Ardyce’s later professional nursing work included Director of Nursing at White Cross Health Center of Smolan, college nurse at Bethany College, and a local physician’s clinic. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at the Presbyterian Manor in Salina for their loving care these last years. Ardyce is survived by her husband, children Ken (Lynn) of Danville, California; Tim (Patti) of Bellevue, Washington; Kathy (David) of Salona Beach, California, step-children, Diane (Bill) of Austin, Minnesota; Sonja (Bill) of Lindsborg, Kansas; Melissa (Mark) of Farmington, Minnesota; and Shawn (Chuck) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandchildren: Jennifer, Scott, Kristen, Micah, Anneliese, Anne, Blake, Erin, Paul, Eric, and Kelsey A private burial took place November 22, at Sharon Springs Cemetery in Sharon Springs, Kansas and there will be a memorial service, December 3, at 10:30 am, Bethany Lutheran Church, Lindsborg, Kansas. Memorials may be designated for Bethany Lutheran Church or Presbyterian Manor of Salina in care of Christians Funeral Home,103 N Washington, Lindsborg, Kansas 67456
