Obituary of Norma Nadine Peterson
Please share a memory of Norma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Norma Nadine Peterson, 84, of Lindsborg, passed away September 8, 2016 in Lindsborg, Kansas. Born in Herington, Kansas to Henry Reinhart Huber and Esther Berg Huber on February 25, 1932, Norma spent her childhood in Herington and McPherson. She made Lindsborg her lifelong home and continued to live in the home Robert built in 1953 until her death. She was known as a seamstress and often made matching dresses for her three little girls and their dolls. Also a master cook and baker, she frequently made the German food she was raised on as well as Swedish tea ring, rye bread, kringler and other delicacies she learned about from Lindsborg natives. Norma was an avid gardener, raising a large vegetable garden and flowers for her family to enjoy. Camping, fishing and boating at Kanopolis Lake provided favorite activities for the whole family and Norma taught her daughters to water ski at an early age and to love the outdoors. She dearly loved her family and her swimming pool was always full of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. Norma was a homemaker and bookkeeper for Peterson Irrigation and was active in Jonathan Club, Lions Club, the America Legion Auxiliary and the Tree Board. She was a lifelong member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Lindsborg.
Norma and her husband found a second home in Port Aransas, Texas in 1985. They spent the winters fishing, walking the beach and shelling. While in Port Aransas they made many lifelong friends from all over the country and Canada. It was also in Port Aransas in 1997 that Norma was blessed to find a second love, Tommy J. Roberts. They shared nineteen years together spending the winter in Port Aransas, the fall and spring in Mountain View, Arkansas and summer in Lindsborg.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert C. Peterson whom she married October 23, 1949, her parents, and a brother, J.R. Huber of McPherson.
Norma is survived by her three loving daughters who will miss their mother’s guidance, sense of humor and unconditional love; Diana (Robert “Bob”) Saunders of Lindsborg, Lynnda (Warren) Olson of Salina, and Korey (Jack “Buddy”) Hensley of Lindsborg. She is also survived by her companion, Tommy J. Roberts of Lindsborg, a sister, Deloris Nutter of Pryor, OK, two brothers: Howard (Patricia) Huber of McPherson, and Raymond (Audrey) Huber of Wichita, eleven grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and many relatives and friends near and far.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 12, from 4-7pm with family present from 6-7pm at Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg.
Burial will be held Tuesday, September 13, at 3:00pm at Elmwood Cemetery Lindsborg, followed by a Celebration of Life at Messiah Lutheran Church at 4:00pm with Pastor Harry Grinstad and Pastor David Carlson presiding. A reception will follow the Celebration of Life at America Legion Post 140, Lindsborg.
