Dear Janet & Bruce, Joanne and I along with Lonnie and Loueen got to spend an afternoon this last summer remembering trips and family visits with your mom. This visit was difficult as our trip came just after the accident that took Forrest and Marie. We had a good time talking about children and grand children. We marveled at our good fortune of having such a loving family. We also marveled that our children and grand children could meet in Wilmore and be greeted and welcomed by people with a common thread that even reaches the fourth generation. I told Laura last night that Maurine had passed and I am sure she will be in touch. Just wanted you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Dennis & Joanne Peterson
Maurine always thought the best of everyone. She never doubted the boy in me but seemed to be so positive that she brought out the best in me (except when I forgot!).
Her expectations were motherly yet she was a friend who happened to be a bit older than I.
LaVern was the same. Always kind and respectful. My father loved working with him on the farm as did I.
And of course, the kids are great. At the time we were rather self-indulgent and went our merry ways in the 60's but the Maurine and LaVern foundation was always there.
I must say that they were exemplary of Assaria but no alone in their kindness. It was and is a great community.
