Obituary of Elizabeth Rosalie Borg

Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rosalie Borg was born in rural Marquette, Kansas on Sept. 23, 1915 to Ellen (Olson) Sellberg and Arthur Sellberg. She attended Wolf Creek Grade School, rural Marquette and graduated from Marquette High School. She went to Emporia State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas, receiving her teaching certificate. She taught elementary school at Alpha School, a one-room country school for grades one through eight. In 1940 she married Edgar LeRoy Borg. Two sons followed; Daryl Lee in 1940 and Merle Lee in 1941. After two years they moved to Wichita where LeRoy worked for Boeing Aircraft Company until he was drafted into WWII in 1945. When he came home they moved to Lindsborg and bought a farm. Carol Joan was born in 1948 and Cheryl Ann in 1950. Rosalie was a stay-at-home mom until the girls were of middle school age. She then finished a Bachelor of Arts in Education Degree from Emporia State Teachers College. When she returned to teaching she taught lst grade in Salina, Kansas. Rosalie was an especially kind, thoughtful person. She loved children and they loved her. Mother liked to entertain, hosting many holiday parties for her siblings and their families. Christmas Eve was always a very special party. Anyone that stopped to see them was served cookies and Swedish coffee. Messiah Lutheran Church was a huge part of their lives. She taught Sunday School, worked with the other ladies in church “circles”, and Dad was a Deacon. LeRoy had taken a job as a hydraulics mechanic on bombers at Schilling Air Force Base while he continued to farm. But in 1965 Schilling Air Force Base was closed and the family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where LeRoy worked at Nellis Air Force Base and Rosalie taught at Sunshine Elementary School for the next 10 years. Mother was good at teaching children to read. She often was assigned the students that might have difficulty reading. In Las Vegas they belonged to Reformation Lutheran Church, joined card clubs, and loved eating out on Friday nights. They retired and moved back to Lindsborg. In retirement they took many trips with friends to fun places. Mother said these were some of the best years of their lives. In July of 2005 they moved to the Cedars Assisted Living facility in McPherson, Kansas. LeRoy died in June of 2006. They had been married 66 years. Every bit a lady, Rosalie will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her. Rosalie and LeRoy had eleven grandchildren; Justin Borg, Eric Borg, Matthew Borg, Dustin Borg, Jeremy Corbeille, Rebecca Jackman, Amanda Howell, Nathaniel Howell, Alycia Anderson, Olen Peterson and Maya Peterson and thirteen great-grandchildren. Rosalie is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Ellen Sellberg, her husband, Edgar LeRoy Borg, brothers Bobby Sellberg (Peggy) and LeRoy Sellberg (Maxine), and sisters Marie Larson (Victor), Adeline Schafer (Bernard), and Grace George (Edward) and two daughters-in-law, Sandra (Smith) Borg and Mary (Johnson) Borg. Survivors include: two sons, Daryl Borg of Lindsborg, KS, Merle Borg (Linda) of San Diego, CA, two daughters, Carol Peterson (Rick) of Storm Lake, IA, and Cheryl Greninger (Michael) of Sedro-Woolley, WA.
