Dear Julie,
I only had the pleasure of meeting your parents on a couple of occasions. Once when we visited your family in the 70's and later when your parents came to Osakis to visit with my dad Morry. My dad and your dad were in the army together. My dad always felt that your dad was one of his dearest friends. My dad spoke so highly of your dad. He enjoyed their phone calls, an occasional hunt together and spending time with him. He also enjoy talking about sports and guns with him. Your dad had a big impact on others. I know you will miss him dearly and hope that you find comfort knowing that others will miss him too!!

We lived across the street from Nancy's parents for many years and got to know Carl then. He was a good neighbor and such a good man. We have many fond memories of him. Our condolences to the family.

I would like to send my condolences and prayers to the family and friends of Mr. Hershberger. I think of Mr Hershberger everytime I go fishing, remembering the class he conducted, teaching us how to fish. Just this morning I was telling a friend how much I enjoyed and appreciated his fishing course. It meant a lot and he will always be remembered fondly.

Mr. Hershberger was a great teacher and coach. When I was twelve and onward he made me feel so good about myself, as a decent math student and a mediocre football player. I still strive to make it to the "sunshine row," signifying mastery of the week's topic. He cared about his students, his family, and nature. He led by example with discipline and character, and wanted the best out of us. Mr. Hershberger gave a lot to everyone he met. - Dennis

Julie - so sorry to hear of the loss of your father. I credit him, Mr. D and Dr. Murphy for my career as a Chemical Engineer, without which, I wouldn't be who/where I am today. He has certainly touched many lives throughout his. With our deepest sympathies, Jerri and family

So sorry to hear that "coach" made his transition. So many great memories on the court and in the class room. He made a impact in my life and I have taught my girls and many others how to "screen out" rebound on the bball court. And I always remember him saying "I'm a poet and didn't know it, but my feet are longfellows!' Of course it was many years before I understood the reference.
He was a man of integrity and I'm glad I knew him. Love to you all.
Angie Ahlstedt Dunbar.

There are a lot of people who have shaped me into the man that I am today and Coach Hershberger is certainly one of those. I had the privilege to have him as a teacher and coach and find myself thinking about the lessons I learned from him pretty frequently as I followed him into teaching math and coaching. I love the photo above as it captures the smile and Carl doing what he loved more than anything else. My deepest condolences.

Larry and I were saddened to hear of Carl's passing last night. He was a good man and we will both miss him. He welcomed us when we moved back to this area in 2001. He would stop by with a catch of fish to give us or just stop in to talk with Larry about deer hunting or whatever was on his outdoor agenda for that day. I will miss his smile and his laugh and his kindness to us over the years. He even stopped by with his grandson several times or a visiting family member. He was so happy to have them here - he just wanted to share them with us. May God bless his family in the coming days. He lived a good life and his was a life well lived. God speed, Carl.

My deepest sympathies, Mr. Hershberger was a very good math teacher and football coach who taught me a lot about both math and football, and more importantly, life lessons about growing up and being a man, lessons that I continue to teach to my students and athletes at Abilene High School.

Mr Hershberger was a great man, and a pillar of the community. He was the most patient math teacher for an eighth grader who had a hard time grasping any mathematical concept. I'll never forget him and the lessons he had taught in life. Rest in Peace Sir, I know you are looking down and smiling. God Bless you Sir and your family.

Thoughts and prayers to family. Carl will be very much missed, we will always remember him gardening and fishing next door. He loved being outside and was always busy doing something to help out one of the neighbors. He always had a story to tell.
