Vonna Nelson, 84, of Assaria, passed away August 18, 2015. She was born in Beloit, Kansas, June 25, 1931, the daughter of Ernest and Myrtle (Jones) English. On April 12, 1953 she married Harold Nelson. While they lived in Beloit she worked as a bank teller. After moving to Assaria, she and her husband started Nelson’s Appliance in Salina and operated it for many years. She was a great and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Vonna loved and cared about everybody. She was a devoted member to the Assaria Lutheran Church and was a member of several church groups as well as other women’s groups. Her favorite hobby was collecting dolls. She always made it to every church event as she was able. You could always find a smile on her face and she was a great and wonderful person to be around. Her husband, Harold passed away November 15, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents and daughter Pamela Young. Vonna leaves behind many loved ones, including brother; Vergil English, Beloit; grandson Josiah Young, Assaria, and great-granddaughter, Whitney Marie Young. She will be greatly missed but she is reunited with her husband and daughter now. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 22, at Assaria Lutheran Church. Private family burial will be held at later date. Memorials may be designated for the Assaria Lutheran Church in care of Christians Funeral Home 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, KS 67456.
