Avonne Swisher went to meet her Lord on Monday, September 6. She was born Cloah Avonne Watson in Salasaw, Oklahoma on May 31, 1931 to Alvin and Flotilla Watson. She attended elementary school in McPherson and junior high and high school in Gypsum, graduating in 1949. She attended Brown Mackie College in Salina. In 1951, she married Max Montgomery. They were blessed with three children, Ann, Lee, and Jane. After Max's death, Avonne married Lyle Swisher and moved to the farm. Later, they had a daughter, Rita. Avonne was a bright and witty woman. She entertained friends and family with her corny sense of humor, practical jokes, and elegant poetry. Avonne was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Gypsum. She is preceded in death by her father, mother, and step-father, Ed Cowell, brothers, Hershel and Howard Crowley, and Alvin Watson. She is survived by her husband, Lyle of Lindsborg, brother, Bob Watson of Wichita, and children Ann (and James) McCormick of Denver, North Carolina, Lee Montgomery and Susan of Salina, Kansas, Jane (and Chris) Hutzler of Plano, Texas, and Rita (and Glen) of Lindsborg, and many grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Gypsum on Thursday, September 9 at 11:00. Burial will be at Gypsum Cemetery, Gypsum, KS. Memorials can be made in care of Christian Funeral Home to the First Baptist Church of Gypsum or Lindsborg Community Hospital. Visitation will be from 4-7pm Wednesday with family present from 6-7pm at Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg. Online condolences at www.christiansfuneralhome.com
