Dorothy Evelyn Lindahl, 100, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2015. She was born Dec. 24, 1914 to Rudolph John and Lillie Mathilda (Peterson) Anderson. Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Lindsborg, KS until 2007 when she moved to Overland Park, KS to be near her daughter.
On August 8, 1939 she married Hugo E. Lindahl and they had two children, John and Karen. Dorothy attended Bethany College and was a graduate of Wichita Business College. She was secretary at Kansas Power & Light, clerk in the Post Office during World War II, and secretary to the Academic Dean at Bethany College from 1961 to 1981.
Hugo and Dorothy were honored in 1989 by being selected as King & Queen of the Svensk Hyllningsfest. She was a lifelong member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she served as secretary to the Church Council, Sunday School teacher, and was a member of WELCA and Miriam Group. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as President and Secretary; Galaxy Study Club, serving as President, Secretary and Treasurer; Hospital Auxiliary; Lindsborg Arts Council; Smoky Valley Historical Society; American Scandinavian Association of the Great Plains; Meals on Wheels board member and volunteer.
She was a Cub Scout Leader, Brownie Scout Leader, and Girl Scout Leader. She loved to entertain, play bridge, sew, and spend time with family and friends. She was so very proud of her Swedish heritage, her church, and her community. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, John C. Lindahl and sister, Mildred Ingemanson. She leaves behind her daughter, Karen Nelson (Larry) of Overland Park, KS; granddaughter, Christine Lindahl (Dwayne Reynolds) of Fredericksburg, VA; 4 step granddaughters, Leslie Nielsen (Chris) of Bakersfield, CA, Debbie Corrigan (Dennis) of Wilton, CT, Natalie Nelson (Chris Herner) of Davis, CA and Andrea (Tim) Priddy of Ingelheim, Germany; great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, April 10 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 11 at Bethany Lutheran Church followed by interment at Elmwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be designated for Bethany Lutheran Church or Bethany College in care of Christians Funeral Home, 103 N Washington, Lindsborg, KS 67456.
