Obituary of Leonard Stein
Please share a memory of Leonard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Leonard G Stein, 82, of Lindsborg, passed away Friday, January 16, 2015. He was born March 11, 1932, the son of Thomas and Caroline (Krauss) Stein. Leonard graduated from Gypsum High School. On August 12, 1951, he married Vera Irene "Billie" Wiltse in Salina. He served in the United States Army and was an active member in the American Legion. He has been a resident of Bethany Home the past several years. Leonard was a member of the Gypsum United Methodist Church.
He was born and raised on the Stein family farm, and after returning from military service, continued in the farming operation which included a working dairy, and raising cattle and crops.
Leonard thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events. He also loved spending time outdoors and doing woodworking in his shop, both on the farm and at Bethany Home. Friends and family have been the recipients of many of his woodworking projects. Keeping busy with his hands was important, and besides his woodworking, he would keep busy cleaning strawberries, cutting up apples, or cracking black walnuts.
He was preceded in death by two sons, David Eric and Christian Lee, and brother, Thomas William Stein.
Leonard leaves behind many loved ones, including his wife Irene "Billie" of Salina, daughter Teresa Wilson and husband Mark of Abilene, daughter-in-law Denise Stein of Gypsum, grandchildren, Bryan Wilson and wife Cassy of Abilene, Christopher Wilson and Devin Wilson of Abilene, Emily Lind and husband Eric of Canton, Erica Moyer and husband Kyle of Gypsum, and Elissa Westbrook and husband Andrew of Wichita, great-grandson Jayce Wilson of Abilene, and sisters, Carolyn Naughton, Yevonne Reed and Betty West.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 22 from 5-7pm at Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, January 23, at the Gypsum United Methodist Church. Burial will be held at Gypsum Valley Cemetery.
