Howard Youngblom, 99, passed away December 30, 2014 at Bethany Home in Lindsborg. He was born May 19, 1915 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Herbert and Jennie (Nelson) Youngblom.
He graduated from Topeka High School and Bethany College in Lindsborg in 1939. Howard received his Bachelor of Divinity degree from Augustana Theological Seminary, Rock Island, IL in 1944. He was ordained into the ministry of the Augustana Synod on June 11, 1944, in the First Lutheran Church, St. Paul, MN. While serving his seminary internship at Trowbridge Park and Scandia, MI, he met Effie H. Tallio. The couple was married on June 1, 1944 in Marquette, MI.
Pastor Youngblom served as a missionary under the Board of World Missions in Tanganyika (Tanzania) East Africa from June 1944 until November 1946 returning to the USA. He served as a Lutheran pastor at eight parishes over 38 years. They include South Dakota: Dalesburg Lutheran in Centerville and the Ahlsborg Church in Elk Point, Texas; Our Saviors Lutheran in McAllen, Nebraska: Sinai Lutheran in Fremont, Our Saviors Church in Spencer, and Trinity Lutheran in Bristow, Missouri; Martin Luther Church in Lee's Summit, and Kansas; Friends Home Lutheran in Savonburg/Chanute.
Pastor Youngblom was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Lindsborg.
Survivors include his daughter, Janice Lubeck Walker, Great Bend, KS and his grandson, Jude Lubeck of Hagatna, Guam, nephews; Conrad Youngblom of Mulvane, KS. and Brent Oman, of Katy, TX.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Youngblom; son, John Youngblom; brother, Ray Youngblom; sister, Alice Oman Swan; and nephew, Bradley Oman.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 10, at 10:00a.m., Bethany Lutheran Church in Lindsborg. A private burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg. There will be no visitation.
