Obituary of Adeline Hult
Please share a memory of Adeline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Adeline Loraine (Lundquist) Hult, 91, of Corvallis passed away Jan. 3, 2014.Adeline was born Aug. 25, 1922, to Abner and Martha Lundquist and raised in Kansas, on a farm near Lindsborg. She leaves behind her greatly beloved husband, John Hult. Throughout her 91 years, her caring and loving spirit was evident wherever she lived or visited.
Adeline attended Fremont School and Lindsborg High School. She interrupted her college education in order to teach in rural Kansas schools during World War II, returning to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1950 at Bethany College. After teaching one year in California, her adventurous spirit took her to Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia, where she served from 1951 to 1955.
Adeline still is honored by Basel Christian Church for participation in the starting of its English-language service. She also is remembered for her role in the rehabilitation and rebuilding of the Sung Siew School during those difficult postwar years.
In 1956 she met the love of her life, John, and began a new adventure as wife and mother of three, Margaret, Elly and Dan. Adeline, John, and family went to Tanzania in East Africa, where Adeline supported John in his medical work and also participated in the innumerable activities of a missionary family. There, the family welcomed a new sister, Martha.
Upon return from Africa in 1960, the family settled in Aurora, Colo., and the family soon grew to include Tim, the fifth child. Along with the responsibilities of a large family, Adeline participated in many organizations, including leadership in medical auxiliaries, participation in Augustana Lutheran Church activities, and contributions to various educational endeavors.
In 1990, Corvallis was chosen for the next phase of John and Adeline's life. Their home was a magnet for family and friends, especially for their five children, 10 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren to gather from around the country. Church activities at Grace Lutheran, singing with the O.K. Chorale, regular water workouts, and participating in a creative writing class all added to the joys of Adeline's active years.
Adeline will be missed, but her presence has enriched and shaped family members and many others around the world who witnessed her loving and faithful spirit, and her partnership with her husband.
Adeline and John moved to Timberhill Place in 2011 and daily expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have these blessed years together in a warm, caring community. Adeline was preceded in death by her son Daniel Edwin Hult; and her brothers; Virgil and La Vern Lundquist.
She is survived by daughters: Margaret Ruud, Eleanor Scott, and Martha Norman; a son, Timothy Hult; a brother, Donald Lundquist; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Dearly loved, deeply missed, and forever remembered!
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 11, at Freemount Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be designated to Grace Lutheran Church in Corvallis, Oregon or to a charity of your choice in care of Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, PO Box 386, Lindsborg, KS 67456.
