Leroy Andrew Sundberg, 93, of Newton, passed away July 20, 2014. He was born January 14, 1921, to Andrew (Fred) and Ethel Peterson Sundberg, the eldest son of four children, Donald, Dorothy (Sundberg) Harder, and Charles.
He was a lifetime member of Bethany Lutheran Church, baptized and confirmed by Dr. Alfred Bergin, and served on the church board.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in July of 1942 and served at several stations while in the service.
Leroy was stationed at Moffet Field, he met Doris Swanson on a blind date and married on May 31, 1946. They were married until her death on December 27, 2005.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a grandchild, Stacy, and his brother Charles.
Leroy leaves behind two children and their spouses. Gary Sundberg (Linda) Ellsworth, Kansas and Wendy Elmquist (Dean) Newton, Kansas, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a brother, Donald, Seattle, Washington, and a sister Dorothy Harder, Newton, Kansas.
Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, at Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg with funeral service 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 30 at Bethany Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Smoky Hill, Lindsborg.
Memorials may be designated to the church or Presbyterian Manor in Newton in care of Christians Funeral Home 103 N. Washington, PO Box 386, Lindsborg, KS 67456.
