Amanda M. Peterson, 95, of Lindsborg, passed away July 6, 2014.
She was born January 1, 1919, in Kansas City, MO, to B. Oren & Nellie Dollie Butcher. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy S. Peterson in 1989, her sister Mary Waneta Butcher, and her brother Robert O. Butcher. She is survived by two daughters, Judy Burch (Leon), Vancouver, WA, Carol Blackman (Elton), Black, MO, a son, Warren Peterson, Overland Park, KS, seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
Amanda graduated from Westport High School and Kansas City Business College and then worked in banking in downtown Kansas City. She married Roy S. Peterson in 1941. She was a homemaker when her children were young, but when they had all finished high school, she returned to work, first in a small drapery business and then in financial services, retiring from Safeway Credit Union in 1984. She had a keen intellect, loved to read the newspaper, and was a master at playing board and card games with her children and grandchildren. She was an active 60+ year member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Kansas City, MO, where she devoted many hours to her sewing projects for the church, its choirs, and Sunday School. Amanda joined her sister as a resident of Bethany Home in the fall of 2008.
A private family memorial service will be held at Hubble Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie, KS.
