Obituary of Amy Christiansen

Please share a memory of Amy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Amy Anita (Florine) Christiansen was born April 29, 1920 to Palmon and Delphine (Forsberg) Florine in Roxbury, Kansas. Amy passed away January 30, 2014 at the age of 93. Amy went to the Roxbury schools and attended two years at Bethany College. She taught school at Pleasant Hill and Roxbury. Amy had one younger brother, Jay, who passed away in 2013. On November 1, 1945, she married Ralph Christiansen. They had two sons, Ryan and Ray. They lived and farmed just south of Roxbury for over 60 years. Ralph proceeded Amy in death in December 2007. Amy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Following in the tradition of her father, she and Ralph helped to set out flags on Memorial Day for veterans for many years. She belonged to the Roxbury United Parish. In October of 2009, Amy moved to the Good Samaritan Retirement Center in Ellsworth, close to her son Ray. Amy enjoyed family gatherings. She delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her granddaughters remember the fun of helping her prepare for Christmas Eve supper, her assistance with grammar questions and her ear for music and desire to listen as they practiced their piano lessons. Her stories of when she was a little girl were always so fascinating. Amy's father came from Sweden as did her maternal grandfather and great-grandparents. The origin of her ancestry was always admired by Amy. Amy spent many years as an artist, primarily painting landscapes in watercolor. Amy is survived by her sons Ryan and his wife Judy of rural Roxbury and Ray and his wife Carol of Ellsworth; five grandchildren; Wendy and Kent Ebersole of Lakeville, Minnesota; Teresa and Mark Wiley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Nancy and Jared Jones of Canton; Andrea and Devon Carter of Augusta; and Daniel and Alex Christiansen of Fayetteville, AR; nine great-grandchildren; Jake, Trey and Kyle Ebersole, James, Lydia and Evelyn Wiley, Dallas and Trevor Jones and Lily Carter and many other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, February, 3, at 2:30 pm at Roxbury United Parish. Private family burial will be at Valley View Cemetery, Roxbury. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be designated for the church or Ellsworth Good Samaritan Center in care of Christians Funeral Home 103 N. Washington, PO Box 386, Lindsborg, KS 67456.
