Obituary of Charles Kelley
Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charles William Kelley, 87, of Falun, Kansas, passed away January 29, 2014 at Bethany Home, in Lindsborg, Kansas.
He was born on a farm in Nickerson, Kansas on January 28, 1927 to Gladys Irene Willman and John Henry Kelley. The young family's joy was cut short with the passing of mother, Gladys in August 1927. John moved to the Falun area with his young son to be close to the Willman family. John's sister rode the train from Cincinnati, Ohio to help her brother with baby Charles. John married Lillie Johnson, Brookville in 1932.
Charles grew up farming with his father, and attended country schools around Falun. While attending high school he met the love of his life, Arlene Mundell. They graduated from high school with two others in their class of 1945. They were joined in marriage on March 7, 1948 in Salina, Kansas. He was lifetime member of Salemsborg Lutheran Church and a lifetime farmer and stockman in the Falun community. His love of the Falun area made him the perfect man for volunteering time, energy, and concern for his neighbors.
He is survived by his three sons: Larry and wife Rosanne, Wichita, Kansas; Duane, Riley Kansas; Lenn and wife Charla, Olathe, Kansas; daughter, Dilyn and husband Tom Hauck, Knoxville, Tennessee; 10 grandchildren, 2 step-granddaughters, and 5 great-grandchildren plus numerous friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Arlene E. Mundell Kelley and his beloved grandson, Jarrett William Kelley.
There will be no visitation. Private burial will be at Falun Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, February 3, at Salemsborg Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Salemsborg Lutheran Church in care of Christians Funeral Home 103 N. Washington, PO Box 386, Lindsborg, KS 67456.
