Obituary of Eldon Bookless

Eldon Carlyle Bookless, 81, of Lindsborg, departed for heaven on January 25, 2014, due to suffering a head injury in a fall in his home.
Eldon was born in Hutchinson, KS, on June 13, 1932, the son of Cleo (VanSickle) and Ross Bookless. He grew up on a farm south of Nickerson and graduated from Nickerson High in 1950. Eldon and Myrtle Burgin were married in Hutchinson on April 6, 1952. He was a farm laborer until 1964, when he became owner and operator of B's Tasty Spot in Lindsborg. He ran that business for 21 years and was also a mail carrier for the Postal Service. He retired from the USPS in 1995.
Eldon cherished his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed farming and nature, camping, fishing, woodworking, and gardening. His gentle spirit and storytelling will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Harry Bookless, and sister Carol Switzer.
Eldon leaves behind many loved ones including his wife, Myrtle of Lindsborg, daughters: Lynn (Richard) Strange of Salina, Donna (Gary) Grant of McPherson, Reva (John) Esh of Lindsborg, sister, Mary (Gordon) Tempero of Topeka, brother, Eugene (Ruth) Bookless of Rio Rancho, NM, seven grandchildren: Zachery (Dinah) Strange, Jeremy (Ashley) Strange, Aaron (Martha) Nelson, Holly (Carlos) Nelson, Amy Esh, Katie Esh, Cassie Esh, and six great-grandchildren: Taylor Strange, Tyler Strange, Lily Strange, Hendrix Nelson, Maxton Nelson, and Benjamin Nelson.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 28, from 5-7 pm with family present from 6-7 pm at Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg.
A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, January 29, at 10:30 am at the Evangelical Covenant Church, Lindsborg. Burial will follow at Salem Community Church Cemetery, Nickerson, at 2:30 pm.
