Claudine Fern Eagles, daughter of Jacob and Kate (Karber) Lehman, was born Jan 15, 1913 at her parents' home northwest of Roxbury and passed away Dec 3 2013 at Sterling House of Salina. She graduated from Roxbury High School in 1931 and Venus Beauty Academy in Wichita. She was united in marriage to Ralph Carl Albert Eagles in her parents house on Aug 18 1935 . They farmed in the Assaria and Culver areas then moved back to her parents' home in the Roxbury community in 1962 where they continued to farm. Ralph passed away Sept 21, 1968. Fern kept the farm going with help from the neighbors until David graduated from college in May of 1969. She worked as a beautician at Florine Beauty Shop in Roxbury, for many years then continued to cut hair at Assaria in her granddaughter Elaine's beauty shop and at home until 2007. Fern continued to live on her home place till 2011 when she broke a hip and moved to Sterling House in Salina. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, grandson Eric Morrical, Great-grandson Jesse Morrical, and brother Earl Lehman.
Fern is survived by her children Nathalie (Harvey) Morrical of Assaria, Loretta (Errol) Redden, Gypsum and David (Jennie) Eagles of Roxbury. Grandchildren, Elaine (Allen) Prater, Eugene (Veronica) Morrical, Elizabeth Morrical, Mark (Angie) Redden, Rachael (Jon) Doolen, Cindy (Steve) Jancich. Bruce (Lisa) Eagles,. Twelve Great-grandchildren, Jeremy Prater, Sara (Daryl) McFarland, Jason Prater (Kristan Nelson), Sylvia Prater, Evan Morrical, Nakari Morrical, Matthew Redden, Ayla and Zahra Doolen, Christopher Jancich and Thomas and Hudson Eagles. Great-great-grandchildren, Jonathan & Wyatt Prater, Jackson Prater, RebeccaMcFarland, and Aleeah Prater.
Fern was active in her church, the Roxbury United Parish, and other groups in the Roxbury community. She loved to bake and cook, serving large Sunday dinners and celebrations of any kind, (even if she always said didn't have much fixed). Many extended family and friends often were there as well, always room for one or two more. Fern continued to carry on the family Karber Christmas after she moved back to the home place serving up to 70+ relatives for the Christmas dinner. The Karber Christmas had been held in her home for 93 years. Fern has put together many history books and of course a cook book for her children and grandchildren. Fern kept many scrapbooks over the years, one for weddings, engagements, death notices and any other item of interest. Often David would look out his window to see headlights early in the morning or late at night as she mowed her yard and driveway. She continued to do this until she was 95. She loved to go to as many of the grandchildren's games and programs, travel, and go anywhere with her friends, there was always somewhere to go something to do.
