Obituary of Marie Nelson

Marie Gertrude Nelson, 87, of Falun, passed away July 5, 2013. She was born March 11, 1926, to Harree and Gertrude Josephine (Ryden) Batliner in Salina, KS. Marie was united in marriage on May 4, 1952, to Vernon Edwin Nelson in Salina, KS. Vernon passed away April 2, 1994. Following Vernon's passing, Marie volunteered for Kay Pogue Hospice for 13 years. Marie was active with the Falun Seniors, Lindsborg Swedish Folk Dancers, ELCW, the Saline County Seniors' Group, a 4-H sewing and knitting leader for many years, and a life member of Eastern Star. Marie also served as the Saline County Elections Clerk for the Falun community. She was an avid quilter, quilting with many of her friends. She especially enjoyed quilting with the women of Falun Lutheran Church where she was a member. She was a spirited bowler, bowling for over 25 years in Lindsborg, then Wii Bowling with her friends and residents of Bethany Home. Marie leaves behind many loved ones including her son, Gary Nelson of Falun, sister, Olive Passmore of Ft. Smith, AR, niece, Dr. Ann Passmore of Ft. Smith, AR, and many other friends and relatives. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 10, from 4-7 pm at Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am at Falun Lutheran Church, Falun. Private family burial will be at Falun Cemetery. Memorials may be designated Falun Lutheran Church or Bethany Home in care of Christians Funeral Home 103 N.
