Janice Marie (Bruel) Griffith's, age 74, passed away on April 10, 2013. She was born August 28, 1938 in Atchison, KS to Charles and Laura Bruel. She was a long-time resident of Lindsborg, KS, where she was a homemaker and retired LPN. Jan married Edward George Griffith's on December 29, 1957 in Atchison, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by son, Edward Lee Griffith's, Salina, KS; sister, Barbara Kay Green, Eureka, KS; and parents, Laura (Grandma Frownie) and Charlie (Grandpa Fishie) Bruel, Atchison.
Jan is survived by her husband, Ed; daughters Cynthia Akagi of Wichita, KS, Chris Campbell of Mayetta, KS, Carla Wilson of Lindsborg and husband, Ron; sons, CJ Griffith's and wife, Barb, of Rifle, CO, and Corey Griffith's and wife, Mary, of Hutchinson, KS; sister, Charlene Lewis of Kansas City, Kansas, and nine grandchildren and one nephew. She attended Trinity Lutheran Grade School, Atchison, and was graduated at age 16 from Mount Saint Scholastica High School, Atchison. She was graduated from Central Kansas Area Vocational Technical School, McPherson, KS in 1978, with a Licensed Practical Nursing Degree. Jan worked as an LPN at Lindsborg Hospital and Bethany Home and served in chair positions in the Kansas LPN Association.
Jan was a long-time member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Lindsborg, and she was active in Westside Club, Smoky Valley 4H Club, Marquette and McPherson Saddle Clubs, Prairie Sunbonnet Doll Club, Broadway RFD, and Lindsborg Folkdanslag, and she was a lifetime member of the McPherson YMCA.
Two Kansans, Jan and Ed, met in San Francisco, CA at a YMCA dance, when Jan and her sister, Charlene, lived in San Francisco, and Ed was stationed there in the Army. Jan made homes for her family in Talmage and Mentor, KS, Hager City, WI, Goodhue, MN, Kearney, MO, and finally Lindsborg, per Ed's employment with ADM Milling Company. Jan was an avid horsewoman who taught all her children to ride. She and her children and grandchildren rode in parades and on trail rides. Jan made life-long friends wherever she lived and played on softball, volleyball and bowling teams. Ed and Jan enjoyed dancing, fishing, and deer hunting; they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2007. Jan loved her husband Ed, dearly, and all her kids, grandkids, and friends, and she will be missed.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm with family present from 6 to 7 pm, Saturday, April 13, at Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, April 14, at 2 pm at Messiah Lutheran Church, Lindsborg. Burial will be held Monday, April 15, at 11:30 am, at St John's Lutheran Cemetery, Easton, KS. Memorials may be designated to McPherson YMCA, Riverview Estates, or Hospice and Home Healthcare of Reno County in care of Christians Funeral Home 103 N. Washington PO Box 386 Lindsborg, KS 67456.
