Dorothy Louise Lutman, 84, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away at the home of her son in Benbrook, TX on March 22, 2013. She will always be remembered for her big hugs, tearful goodbyes, and worrying ways.
Dorothy, the youngest of three sisters, was born to Edwin and Alice Patrick of Marquette, KS, on April 28, 1928, and was raised in Lindsborg, KS. She met her soul mate, Kenny Lutman, in the spring of 1943 when he was on pass from his military duties at a nearby Camp Phillips. After the war, Kenny returned to Lindsborg and he and Dorothy were married on May 6, 1946. They settled in Lindsborg, KS and raised three sons and a daughter.
Dorothy worked in the retail business the bulk of her working years and retired as a Personnel Manager at a K-Mart department store in McPherson, KS. Dorothy was always very active in the local community and served as President of the Lindsborg Business and Professional Women's Club and as President of the American Legion Auxiliary. Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church and an active member of the Women of the ELCA (WELCA) ministries.
Dorothy was preceded in death by Kenny, husband of almost 65 years; two elder sisters, Marie and Lucille; eldest son Robert; grandson Jhamahl Miles; and four great grandbabies. She is survived by her son Wayne and wife Lois; son Steven; daughter Mary Shelton; and many beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Christians Funeral Home of Lindsborg.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be conducted by Pastor Dean Apel at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 28, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Lindsborg, with burial following at Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg.
