Florence Edna May Brunsell Youngquist was born December 19, 1910 in McPherson, Kansas. She was born in the home of her grandparents, Judge and Mrs. J. W. Walker. She was the eldest of four children born to August and Esther Brunsell. Edna passed away December 22, 2012 at Bethany Home at the age of 102 years, Edna grew up on the family farm north of Lindsborg, near Coronado Heights. She attended Rosehill Grade School and graduated from Lindsborg High School On July 28, 1932 she married James C. Youngquist. They were married for 56 years. During their married life the family lived a short time in California and then moved to Wichita, Kansas where James worked for Boeing Aircraft during World War II. In 1947 they returned to Lindsborg where they built their home at 121 N Cedar in 1960. Edna has lived in Bethany Home for nine years. Edna worked for a time at the Farmers Union Elevator and at Lindsborg Hospital as a nurse's aid. Edna was a member of Mothers of World War II, Lindsborg Hospital Auxiliary, United Methodist Church, and United Methodist Women. She and James both belonged to the Lindsborg Bowling Leagues for many years. They enjoyed playing cards and square dancing. They were caretakers and board members of Smoky Hill Cemetery. They also enjoyed searching and recording the genealogy of their families. Her garden and flowers were a joy to her. She had her greenhouse full of flowers and plants of all kinds. She really had a "green thumb". Edna was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a daughter, Yvonne, two brothers and one sister. Survivors include two sons, Duane (Doris), Lenexa, Kansas, Gary (Ruby) Malden, Missouri, six grandchildren, and several great and great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and two cousins. Edna was a very caring person. She showed this in many ways, especially in caring for her parents and elderly aunts and uncles. She so enjoyed her 100th birthday party and was amazed she had lived to be so old. Private burial at Smoky Hill Cemetery with a memorial service at 10:30 am Friday at Bethany Home Chapel. Memorials may be made to Bethany Home in care of Christians Funeral Home, 103 N Washington, Lindsborg, KS 67456. Online condolences at www.ChristiansFuneralHome.com
