Royer C. Barclay of Lindsborg, KS died on October 14, 2012. Royer was born on October 9, 1913 in Grinnell, KS, son of Dr. John Judson and Mary (Royer) Barclay. He graduated from Grinnell High School and began his college career at Ft. Hays State followed by the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II. After his service he returned to his studies at the University of Nebraska earning a degree in Agriculture. He married Althea Lundstrom of Lindsborg on December 26, 1940, enjoying 65 years together before her death in 2006. Royer was a farmer and rancher in Lindsborg and in partnership with his brother, "Juddy", in Gove County. Royer and Althea lived in a historic Lindsborg house on the corner of Second St. and Olsson for nearly 60 years and lovingly watched generations of Bethany College students from their kitchen window. Known for their hospitality, they entertained family and friends with graciousness and style. Royer was a committed citizen of Lindsborg serving on many boards including Bethany Home, Bethany College, Messiah Church Council, McPherson County Zoning, and the City Council of Lindsborg. He was a longtime member of Messiah Lutheran Church, the Kiwanis Club and sang tenor in the Bethany College Oratorio Society. Royer was preceded in death by his wife Althea, son Royer Campbell (R.C.), brother John Judson and wife Adaline of Grinnell, KS and sister Elizabeth Martin and husband Max of Sun City, AZ. He is survived by his son John Judson and wife Connie of Decorah, IA; grandsons Martin and wife Briana of Bettendorf, IA; Jay and wife Erin of Highlands Ranch, CO and John Judson Jr. of St. Joseph, MO; four great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2:00 p.m. in the Bethany Home Chapel in Lindsborg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be designated to Bethany Home or the Hospice Care of Kansas. Online condolences at www.ChristiansFuneralHome.com
