Charles Paul Mattson, 91, of Lindsborg, went home to be with the Lord on November 12, 2011.
Paul was born in Smolan, Kansas on January 19, 1920, the son of August and Adina (Peterson) Mattson. He married Mary Hamilton on July 2, 1950.
Paul lived in Smolan all of his life until moving to Lindsborg in 2006. He was a life-long member of the Covenant Churches in Smolan and Lindsborg. Her served as the song leader at the Smolan church for many years, and sang in the Messiah Choir and church choir. He served in the US Army during World War II, where the majority of his service was as an MP at the White House. He was a proud member of the Lindsborg American Legion. Paul worked for General Air Conditioning and Electrical Company in Salina for 42 years. Paul also worked as a volunteer at the Salina Rescue Mission.
He loved singing with his family and listening to Mary play the piano. In his later years, he organized the Monday Morning Coffee Party with friends in Smolan. He enjoyed visits from his children and grandchildren, and always liked visiting and speaking in Swedish with friends.
He was preceded in death by sisters; Elwill Weltmer, Val Doris Tucker, brother, Wilmarth "Bud" Mattson, and two infant granddaughters.
Paul is survived by his wife, Mary of Lindsborg, children; Janie Zweigle of Michigan City, Indiana, Diana (Conrad) Swenson of Rose Hill, KS, Vickie (Dennis) Woodworth of Wichita, KS, Charles Paul "Butch" (Hiroko) Mattson Jr. of Wichita, KS, grandchildren; Michelle, Jennifer, Rachel, Jonathan, Jessica, Lindsey, David, Taisei, and Ryosuke, and great-grandchildren; Samuel, Paul, Lauren, Irini, Madison, Hannah, Gavin, Eleni, and Bryce.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7pm with family present from 6-7pm at Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg.
Burial will be held at 1:00pm Thursday at Mission Hill Cemetery. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00pm at Bethany Home Chapel, Lindsborg.
Memorials may be designated for Salina Rescue Mission or Bethany Home in care of Christians Funeral Home 103 N. Washington PO Box 386 Lindsborg, KS 67456.
