Ruth Rush Johnson, 87, formerly of Falun, died Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, Kansas. She was born on July 27, 1924 in Jamestown, Kansas to John and Arabelle Dewell Rush, and moved to Falun in 1953. She and her husband Vivian moved to Lindsborg in 2005. After high school she joined the WAC and spent 17 months serving in Europe during WWII. After discharge she attended college, receiving a teaching certificate, and taught at rural schools in Concordia, Salina and Hedville. She was a member of the Falun Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday and Bible School and led the WELCA. She was also a 4-H and Brownie Scout leader. Ruth was a member of the Marquette and Lindsborg American Legions and the Salina VFW. She was married to Vivian Johnson on May 16, 1953 in Belleville, Kansas. Survivors include a daughter Mary Negus and husband Ray of Brookville, Kansas; sons Tim of Hays, Kansas and Tom of Lindsborg, Kansas: granddaughter Becky Heimer and husband Doug of Assaria, grandson Kyle Neywick and wife Angela of Falun, four great-grandchildren Kaylee, Kirsten and Kirk Heimer and Riley Neywick; three step-grandsons and 3 step-great-grandchildren; a sister Nina Whipkey of Lincoln, Nebraska. Ruth is also survived by many special cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Vivian in 2008, her parents, three brothers, Charles, Jim and Robert Rush and one sister Martha Clark and a great-grandaughter Christina Heimer. A memorial service will be held at ll:00 AM Friday, October 14, 2011 at the Falun Lutheran Church following a private family burial at Falun Cemetery. There will be a gathering of friends and family on Thursday, October 13, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Activity Center at Bethany Home in Lindsborg. Memorials may be made to the Falun Lutheran Church, the Falun Community Park or the Activity fund at Bethany Home, Lindsborg, Kansas. Online condolences at www.ChristiansFuneralHome.com
