I have so many memories of when our family lived in Smolan. You loved to tease me about saying "more oatmeal Aunt Esther" when I stayed at your house when my sister was being born. Even though you told me not to ride my bike down the alleys filled with cockle burs, you always fixed my flat tires. One special memory was walking up the steep stairs in the church steeple to ring the Sunday morning bell. After our family moved to CA, I always enjoyed reading your letters your wrote on the old typewriter. They made me feel so connected to the family and friend we left behind. The video of your life was wonderful! I miss you.

I am so glad that Sharon and I made the trip in July 1997 to see everyone in our home state of Kansas. Thanks for being such a terrific uncle. I loved the video of pictures from your life. You were so brave when you let me drive you down to LA when I first got my license. Thanks for reading the first book of poems I wrote in my senior year in high school. I remember that you recorded them on a tape recorder. No iphones back then. The whole group of the Smolan Hultman women and their men are together celebrating the glory of God. I love you all.

We are saddened to hear of the loss of Wally. He was indeed a good person. We can still see him driving down the sidewalk in his golf cart & stopping in front of the office to say hello. We missed him after he moved in 2008 and will continue to miss him now that he is gone. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Bless you Wally, Mandi Potter & Robyn Williams w/ Edward Jones in Osage City, KS

David, I'm sorry for your loss. I never had the pleasure of meeting your father but I know he did a great job of raising his son. Just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you. Chris

I am saddened to hear of Wally's death. I met him at Foley Tractor Co. in Jan. 1977 when I moved from Junction City, Ks. to Salina, Ks. I was a mechanics helper, steam cleaner & painter at the time. Wally helped me do a head job on my 1956 Chevy pickup. We used to eat lunch together everyday upstairs above the offices while listening to Paul Harvey News then take a 30 minute nap. I have been to his house several times in Smolan for lunch and dinner and helped him tinker on the old Caterpillar D2 Bulldozer he had. Wally taught me at 19 years old how a man should live his life. I will miss him dearly.
