Obituary of Ruth Hope

Ruth Lorene Hope, 92, of Lindsborg, passed away September 2, 2011 at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, KS. She was born September 10, 1918, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Nelson) Swanson on a farm in Ong, Nebraska, the youngest of 8 children. She attended public schools in the Ong area and went on to graduate from Nursing School at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. She married Charles Hill in Portland, Oregon, and to this union were born a daughter, Mary, and two sons, Donn and Dale. She had a long and varied career as a nurse in the fields of obstetrics and private duty, and in later years, worked in a community blood bank in Kansas City. She later married John Hope in Kansas City, Missouri. She had a great curiosity about history and enjoyed traveling to most of the continental states in her retirement. Her love of music was expressed in her many years of participation in church and community choirs. She enjoyed playing piano from her childhood up to the last year of her life. One of her greatest joys was her family, and she was particularly proud of the accomplishments of her granddaughters, Jennifer and Dana. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Lindsborg, KS, and was active in her church women's organization for many years. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lindgren of Lindsborg, two sons, Donn Hill of Beaverton, OR, and Dale Hill of Portland, OR, two granddaughters, Jennifer Horrell and her husband Matt of Iowa City, IA, and Dana Lindgren of Louisville, KY, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be private. A Memorial Service will be held at 10am Tuesday at Bethany Home Chapel. Burial will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Ong Cemetery in Ong, Nebraska.
