Ronald Rodney Archer, 75, of Assaria, passed away July 14, 2011 at Salina Regional Health Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 16, 1935, the son of Rodney and Phyllis (Springman) Archer at Piasa, Illinois. Ronald moved with his family to Assaria in 1942. He graduated from Assaria High School in 1953. He worked for Erickson Construction building bridges for a number of years. He was a crane operator when the Atlas Missile Sites were built. Ronald married Barbara L. Wolfe on November 22, 1969. He worked for Graves Truck Line for 22 years. He went to work for All Ways Freight Lines and managed their Salina Terminal until it closed. He drove for JMJ Trucking of Kansas City, KS, and retired from there. After retirement, he began driving for PARD, hauling pre-stress concrete. He was an actively involved member of Mentor United Methodist Church. He prepared the pancakes for the Mentor Monthly Pancake Breakfast. Ronald served on the Board of Directors of Salina Rescue Mission. He had a passion for volunteering with projects at the Mission. His family was his pride and joy. He loved attending his children and grandchildren's events. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Derald and Lyndal, and his daughter, Rhonda Archer. Ronald is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home, daughter, Jill (George) Idelman of Omaha, NE, sons, Kevin (Denise) Archer of Colwich, KS, Ryan (Melody) Archer of Wichita, KS, and grandchildren, Justin and Brandon Idelman, Calin, Bret, and Julie Archer, and Riley and Reagan Archer. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-7pm with family present from 6-7pm at Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30am Monday at Mentor United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Assaria Lutheran Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials designated to Salina Rescue Mission in care of Christians Funeral Home 103 N.
