Vernon Larson, 91, of Lindsborg, passed away June 16, 2011. He was born March 3, 1920, the son of Elmer and Anna (Blomgren) Larson at #18 consolidated coal company mine near Lovilia, Iowa. Vernon was a meat cutter for over 50 years. After moving to Lindsborg, he worked at Larson Market and Wayne's Market. He was an avid bowler, and earned the nickname "Tiger" competing on teams in Lindsborg, Salina, and McPherson. Vernon was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, and had seen games of Dizzy & Paul Dean and Stan Musial. He was Baptized in Ottumwa, Iowa, and Confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church, Lindsborg. He enjoyed traveling to the scenic west. He harvested and shared black walnuts with anyone who enjoyed them, and looked forward to tomato season every year. His life was greatly enhanced by his nephew, Laird Larson, who lived with him the last 12 years of his life, and gave him help and comfort. Vernon was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Larson, infant sister, Kathryne Larson, and nieces, Kristin Larson and Ingeborg Larson. He is survived by brother, Philip Larson of Overland Park, and his children Kari Lipscomb of Overland Park, and Erik Larson of Chicago, brother Ralph Larson of Topeka, and his children Theresa Larson of Kansas City, MO, Christopher Larson of Leawood, KS, and Laird Larson of Lindsborg, sister-in-law, Hilda Larson of Texas City, TX, niece, Susan Wasserman of New Orleans, LA, and Nephew, Steven Larson of Texas City, TX. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30pm Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be designated for Bethany Lutheran Church in care of Christians Funeral Home 103 N. Washington PO Box 386 Lindsborg, KS 67456. There will be no visitation.
