Obituary of Martha Tubbs
Please share a memory of Martha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marty (Martha Weishaar) Tubbs died peacefully at the Lindsborg Community Hospital, Monday, January 4, 2011 at the age of 87, from the result of a major stroke. She had been a resident of Bethany Home in Lindsborg, Kansas for 11 years.
Marty was born June 2, 1923 on a farm in Glenn Ullin, North Dakota to Jacob and Magdelena Weishaar. As a teenager, Marty and two of her sisters traveled to Portland, Oregon to participate in overhead welding on battleships to help out with the war effort. Marty didn't mind the welding, she had learned to weld on the family's farm, but didn't like the sparks that scorched her hair and burned holes in her clothes. After WWII ended, she returned to the farm in North Dakota. There she met her future husband, Frank Tubbs, a custom wheat cutter from Kanorado, Kansas. After their marriage on November 28, 1947, they eventually settled down on a farm near Kanorado and raised two children, Jim and Kathy. The couple farmed and ranched there for many years until Frank's death in 1983. Marty moved to Lindsborg, KS to be near her grandchildren in 1999.
Marty's life was not an especially easy one. She experienced the loss of her daughter, Kathy 16, in a car accident in 1968; the loss of her husband, Frank 58, to a heart attack in 1983; and the loss of her son, Jim 42, to a heart attack in 1992. But she retained the will to go on and while living in Bethany Home, the staff enjoyed talking with her and always had good and kind words to say about her. She enjoyed seeing her grandchildren grow up and also her great-grandchildren.
Marty is survived by four grandchildren, Taton, Tyler, and Tarron Tubbs of Lindsborg, Kansas and Tanner Tubbs of McPherson, Kansas; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Laura Fredrich of Sheridan, Wyoming; a brother Ray Weishaar of Laurel, Montana; and a daughter-in-law, Janie Tubbs of Lindsborg, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her children, Jim and Kathy; and five siblings, David, Ella, Alvin, Clarence, and Violet.
A memorial service will take place at the Bethany Home Chapel in Lindsborg, Tuesday, January 11 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. (Mountain Time) at the Kanorado Cemetery in Kanorado, Kansas, followed by a gathering at the Kanorado Senior Center. Visitation will be held at the Christians Funeral Home in Lindsborg, Kansas, Monday, January 10, 2011 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with the family in attendance from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Memorial donations should be designated to Bethany Home, Lindsborg, KS in care of Christians Funeral Home 103 N.
