Obituary of Janice E. Nelson

Janice Elaine Nelson was born January 26, 1944 in Springfield, Colorado, the daughter of Carl A. and Mildred J. (Bennett) Mason. She had worked in several nursing homes in the Salina and Lindsborg, Kansas area. She married Bobby L. Martin. They were divorced. She then married James R. Nelson on November 3, 1968.
Janice lived for her children and grandchildren, and when they were not available, she mothered her neighbor’s children. There was always a welcome ear to confide in. she was friends to virtually everyone on Facebook.
Survivors include her husband: James; sons: Bobby G. (Christi) Martin and James R. (Mona) Nelson, Jr.; daughters: Carlena Gannels and Linda Clapper; as well as 27 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Henry, Herman, and Carl E. Mason; and grandchildren: Summer Lemaster and Derrek Swisher.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 15 at Salemsborg Lutheran Cemetery, rural Smolan, with Pastor Ben Fulton officiating. Interment will follow in the Salemsborg Lutheran Cemetery. There will be a brief time for viewing before the funeral.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salemsborg Lutheran Cemetery Association or to the First Lutheran Church of Longmont, CO. Memorials may be sent in care of Crick-Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, KS 67456.
