Obituary of David Michael Opat
Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David Michael Opat, 70, of Lindsborg passed away August 18, 2023 at Lindsborg Community Hospital. Dave was born in Lindsborg, KS on July 16, 1953 to John F. and Roma Jean (Johnson) Opat. He was a graduate of Lindsborg High School in the class of 1971.
Dave married Eunice Wedel on October 13, 1984 at Moundridge, KS. They would have been married 39 years, this year.
Throughout his life Dave worked at different jobs. His final employment was with Exide Battery. The one job Dave liked to talk about and talked about most often was his time as a reserve officer for the Lindsborg Police Department.
Dave was a farmer and livestock owner at heart. An oft repeated statement, “if it means saving it, the calf will be in the house.” The family recalls that several calves over the years survived because of that practice.
In 1986, Dave and Eunice adopted their daughter, Karyee. That was followed in 1991 with the adoption of their sons Christopher and William. Beginning in 2006 the grandchildren became an important part of their lives. Eventually, Dave and Eunice would legally adopt Matthew, Dylan, and Allyssa.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents; sister: Diann; and grandson: Michael.
Survivors include his wife: Eunice of the home; sons: Christopher, William, and Dylan; daughters: Karyee and Alyssa; brother: Joseph Opat; sister: Jane Balaun; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
