Obituary of Joanne Edgar Marsh

Please share a memory of Joanne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joanne Edgar Marsh, age 101, of Lindsborg journeyed to her home in heaven Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Bethany Home of Lindsborg, KS. Joanne was born January 19, 1922 in Hoyleton, IL to the late Judge Joseph D. and the late Ruth (Edgar) Maxwell. She married Hugh E. Marsh on December 25, 1944 at Nashville, IL. Joanne loved and nurtured her family. She was a behind-the-scenes partner to her husband in his ministry. She modeled to her children her deep value to love and serve others. She loved music and expressed it through playing the piano, listening to recorded music, and leading a “Move to Music” exercise class in her retirement years. As her children prepared to leave the nest, she returned to teaching school as she had done after college and in her early years of marriage. Later she became a social worker for the State of Kansas, showing compassion to clients by taking them under her wing and serving them beyond the call of duty. Joanne was nearly famous for her letter writing using it as an expression of love to family and friends, including staff members from Bethany Home as they left for various life transitions. It was also an avenue for her to minister to prisoners. Following decades of supporting her husband at various churches in Kansas, they “filled in” for a small church in La Veta, CO. They finally retired there and stayed for 17 years before moving to Lindsborg in 2001. Survivors include her daughter: Martha Anne Roberts (Ralph) of Lindsborg, KS; sons: Daniel G. Marsh of Wichita, KS, and Paul E. Marsh (Jill) of Riverdale, KS; as well as 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and loved ones. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Hugh; sons: David H. and Johnny E. Marsh; brothers: Norman E. and Frances E. Maxwell; and her sister: Charlotte Small. Cremation has been chosen. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 18 at the Bethany Home Chapel, with Chaplain Dr. Mandy Todd, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Home. Memorials may be sent in care of Crick-Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, KS 67456.
