Norman L. Shogren was born December 23, 1927 to the late Hugo and Irene (Train) Shogren. He was born on his grandparent’s farm (C.T. Train), two miles east of Lindsborg. Norman passed away June, 8, 2023 at the age of 95. He attended grade school at Kentucky (Trains) District No. 9, a one room country school. He graduated from Lindsborg High School in 1946. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent a year in Japan with the Occupational Services. Following his discharge, Norman attended Bethany College for two years and graduated from Brown-Mackie School of Business in 1952. On June 4, 1955 he married Marjorie Malm and to that union two children, Gary and Connie were born. He worked for Standard oil from 1952 to 1963, when the family moved from Kansas City to the farm where Norman was reared. He worked at Farmers Union until 1967 and was then employed by Farmers State Bank. He continued working in the banking industry until his retirement in 1992. Norman was active in community affairs. He served on the Svensk Hyllningsfest Committee, and was the treasurer for many civic organizations. In his leisure time he enjoyed working on the farm where there was always a weed to pull or a board to paint. Norman and Marge enjoyed working together in their vegetable and flower gardens. Survivors include his son: Gary Shogren (Diana), of Lindsborg, KS; daughter: Connie Brooks, of Kansas City, Kansas; sister: Doris Youngquist; grandchildren: Jeffrey, Cory, Jacob, and Ashley; great-grandchildren: Isabella and Diesel; as well as extended family: Barbara and Dave Elliott, much loved nieces and nephews, and many friends. Norman was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Marjorie; sister: Lorene; and brother: LaMar. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 23 at Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Chris Deines officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church or the Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery.
