Gretta L. Small, 88, of Lindsborg passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Lindsborg Community Hospital, Lindsborg, KS. Gretta was born December 8, 1933, in Topeka, KS to the late Fred and the late Elizabeth “Dollie” (Daniels) Reetz. Gretta was raised on the family farm in Fall Leaf, Kansas, attending Fall Leaf Grade School --a one room school with grades 1-8. Gretta attended St. Paul’s Evangelical Church in Eudora, Kansas, singing in the choir. In 1951, Gretta graduated from Eudora High School and in 1955 from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in music. Gretta’s favorite lifetime memories included solo performances in opera houses in both San Francisco and Berlin. Gretta spent 10 memorable years living in Germany and traveling through much of Europe before returning to the States where she taught school in Oklahoma, and later edited medical research papers at the University of Texas Research Center until her retirement, moving to Lindsborg, Kansas in 2003. Gretta is remembered by her surviving cousins and friends as a spirited woman with unmatched musical talent, intelligence, and a great sense for beauty. Cremation has been chosen. A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 11 at Elmwood Cemetery, with Pastor Jeff Waugh officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McPherson Animal Shelter.
